I am starting to get white hair on my head. Are there any negative effects of pulling them out?

I heard that once you pull out your white hair, more start to grow. Is this true? Any ideas?

Pulling the white hairs, or not doing so, will have no effect on the growth rate, or the overall volume of the dreaded white hair. It is who you are evolving into, my advise is to let them be. This is by far the easiest position to take. Your other option is a dye of some sort, but this requires constant maintenance. I like to comb and go.

It will just grow back white, so why bother??? Eventually you will have to pull them all out. Why not just color your hair?

It doesn't really matter. Even if you don't pull a white hair on your head...

...more will grow no matter what.

pulling it out will only make a bald patch and if you keep doing it you will damage the follicle and the bald patch will be permanent. Best thing to do is to buy a dye thats specifically designed to cover FIRST GREYS and if its a perfect match, you dont have to use it all over, just on the affected area. If you're not sure about how it will look, try a semi permanent that washes out after 6 to 12 washes, then if you like the result, get a permanent dye. Try and stick with the same brand and avoid anything with a metallic tone.

Hi pyare,

Some hair experts say it is a myth.

But, in my experience i have seen that it is actually likely to happen. Have seen it happening to some people.

Pulling out white hair wont give u a solution. Do try hair dye. It is wiser to do so.

That is a myth.

Each hair, white or not, comes from ONE hair follicle (sp?), so if you pull it out, only ONE will grow back in its place. However, keep pulling it and eventually it won't grow back at all.

Take your pick: gray, bald spot, or dye job.

That's a myth. If you pull out one gray hair, one will grow back. There are no negative effects, it's just a pain in the butt to pull all those hairs out again later. If it's really bad, then you can use a semi-permanent hair color (ex. Loving Care by Clairol). You get one that is your hair color or as close as you can get it and then all it does is covers the grays, it doesn't mess with your natural hair color. Hope that helps.
