Does white hair causes your head to itch?

My mother plucks out the white strands of hair off her head (well, she makes me do it for her) because she says it itches a lot. Is that at all possible?! Or is my mother just using that as an excuse to rid her white hair just so she would'nt seem and feel old (she's like in her early 40's). And if you start getting rid of those white strands of hair would more start growing?

And also, I've tried giving her them anti-itch shampoo and conditioners but she won't take them. She thinks that they won't do any better.

Help! I wanna know if this is true or not! coz its pissing me off! i cant be assed to pluck her effin hair out! ***** waste of time!

oh, and what causes you to have white hair anyway? other than aging... would stress be another reason why that happens?

thnx in advanced...

Does white hair causes your head to itch?

Well, to your surprise, Grey hair itches as i found a lot of same case in my salon society. I know it's ridiculous but that's the fact. If you really put attention, grey hair usually grows a little bit curlier than the others which makes it a little outstanding from the others too. Some people find it itching because the few grey hair seems like not supposed to be there at all, with different structure and shape as well. Inspite of the aging problem, stress and over-loaded mind can also produce grey hair, because automatically the body cant support complete ingredients to the new hair. That's why some of it lack of color pigment, which is called grey hair.

Hopefully it helps. :)

the grey hair on the head does not cause itching... and if u start plucking the grey hair.. they will grow in a faster rate..

ask her to apply henna... regularly.. twice a month.. so that her hair will get conditioned and the gray hair will not be seen..

as u said ur mom is 40's so obviously she will start growing grey hair.. and due to strees and some deficiencies also one can get white hairs

so my advice do not pluck the hairs..

  2. I'm 29, and I know exactly when my gray hair are starting to grow back. I know for a fact that they do itch because I can actually pinpoint exactly where most of them are located. All I have to do is point to the spot where it itches the most.

It's not an excuse. It's something that you'll experience for yourself when you grow older. I do however understand how you feel ... I used to think the same way when I was like 20 years younger. I hated it when my mom ask me to pluck 'em out for her

  4. I'm 33 years old and driving myself crazy. My mom was complete white by my age so I've been expecting gray hair. Now, my scalp is itching so bad that I'm having to take benadryl just to sleep. I went to my stylist, she carefully checked my hair and said, I don't have dry scalp, I don't have oily scalp, I don't have dandruff or any rashes. She recommended for me to go to a dermatologist. Which I did. That did me no good. They pretty much told me I've got a sensitive scalp and put me on a Selsun Blue equivalent. Yeah, still does not work. The more gray hair I get the more my head feels on fire. So, despite what everyone says yes GRAY HAIR DOES MAKE YOUR HEAD ITCH. Yes Selsun Blue has given some relief but for the most part Benadryl has been my remedy for the evening time. As for plucking. Don't do it, it will just grow back shorter and more wiry. I've learned this the hard way.

  5. I have alot of grey hair and yes they do itch. Ive found that dyeing my hair helps the itch. If I was blind, I would be able to tell when I need to color my roots. Because the itch comes back. It almost seems that when the grey part of my hair "gets air" or comes out of the scalp it makes it itchy. But when the hair is covered with dye, it stops itching.
Try dyeing your hairto stop the itching.

    1. Wow! That's the same thing that happens to my friend. He is in his early 40s and says that his head gets tingly and itchy when he lets his gray hair grow. The only thing that relieves the itch is dying it black again... He uses henna and indigo to dye it tho.
I thought he just didn't want his gray to show... But now I know others go through it too

  8. Yes, they are itchy. I know I have read articles saying it's from scalp problems, well I beg to disagree, the itch is always where the grays are. For it's at the back of my head where I can't reach to pluck.

  10. I know for a fact grey hair itches! That's why I stumble upon this post, to see if others experience the same as I do. I hate it when "experts" say it doesn't itch. Just like many others here, I know exactly where the grey hair is on my head and I know when it grew in because it itches! When I pluck it out the itch is gone on that spot until next time I get a grey hair somewhere else on my head then that spot itches.

    1. Those 'experts' are actually assholes. They only utter like a parrot what they read in the books. But, they lack the practical knowledge. It's true grey hairs are itchy. When you dye it back to black colour, the itching vanishes and you could sleep peacefully at night.

  12. Are used to hear my mom complain about how her grey hair itches. I used to think she just exaggerates and wanted to color her hair. I am now in my 40s getting gray hair and OMG my head feels like it’s fire. it itches so badly I can hardly sleep. The only relief I get is when I color it. 100% gray hair itches it’s a fact. All my friends that are going gray have the same problem.

An important step in being able to grow long and healthy black hair is to deal effectively with the dryness of our curly, kinky tresses.
