Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

I did not ask this question in a racist context....and I will not defend myself on that basis, because only I know that I am not, this is purely a question based on the different types of hair textures that we have, and the truth that when you walk past a white hair salon you don't see too many black folk sitting in there, and if you walk past a black salon you don't see too many white folk sitting in there, ergo, my question. If I were a racist, I would never consider letting a white person touch my hair to begin with. duh. So please do not twist this question into something it is not. And thanks everyone for your answers. PEACE!

I read your previous question, and I could see how it would be perceived as racist.I know it was not.Yes white people can do black hair. All of us (hairdressers) were trained to do all types of hair.I personally have quite a few black customers that come to me for their perms and tell me no black hair dresser has ever gotten their hair so smooth and straight.I love working on my black customers hair.I hope this helps.

Well it's kind of attention bringing to ppl and we've seen so many racist questions around here ti'll it's kind of blending in with that sort of process but at least your defending your-slef and explaining what had happened.

It doesn't sound racist to me. It just sounds like you're curious as to why.

Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

Can't answer that without seeing the question.

Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

Maybe the people that called you a racist have a guilty conscience. I am white and I had a black cosmotoligist to cut my hair once. It was her idea not to cut it again because she said she had not been trained to work on my type of hair. I have very fine hair and it is hard to find someone, black or white, that knows how to deal with it. Overlook them dear.

We deal with lots of different personalities on this site from day to day, and sometimes people are just dumb.......I wouldn't let it bother me, though, seems like you have a good head on your shoulders...............Take care.............

Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

I don't think it's racist, I can understand a question like the one you asked. I have white skin, but I'm also of Guatemalan descent, so I have very curly, ethnic hair. It's not like european hair, but a lot of hair stylists see my skin tone and treat my hair like "white girl" hair, and end up messing it up.

People might be better at doing other people of the same ethnicity's hair because they've been working with it, and become used to doing it all their lives.

Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

There are inteligent people and ignorant people, who ever intrepide your question as a racist, is a darn ignorant person....

Why was my question about white hairstylist doing black persons hair perceived as racist?

Your question was not racist. Many Caucasians just don't understand how different white hair is from black hair, and that you can't just walk into ANY hair salon and get a cut and style. Anyone who suggested that you question is racist just does not know too much about hair, or different types of hair I should say.

In response to your original question, talk to the stylist, ask if she has alot of experience with black hair.
