Relaxer for white hair?

Is it safe to use a relaxer made for african american hair on my hair? Im white, but my hair is really really wavy and i straighten it all the time. I have a 200 dollar straightener, but since i live where it is humid, my hair curls a little still.

I was going to buy a relaxer kit from walgreens..

i dont want to damage my hair. Please help =)

Relaxer for white hair?

african american hairtypes are generally coarser then white peoples. you need to find to most gentle one thats there, and you need to take it off early. It will damage your hair, but if done properly, maybe not too badly. who ever does it for you needs to be very fast, and very careful. start in the back and work your way to the front. i would say 15 minutes maximum unless you have coarser then average hair. if its color treated, go professional, youll be sorry if you dont. I, as a stylist, have been sucessful with using guanidine carbonate relaxers to straighten caucasian hairtypes. Sodium hydroxide is too strong. you need a no-lye version. like i said, as soon as your hair isnt springing back into its waves and is kindof hanging straight, GET IT OFF IMMEDIATELY. follow rinsing and neutralizing proccedures too the tee. youll need to swich to a moisturizing conditioning line, with occasional protein treatments to maintain your hair quality. relaxers wont give you perfectly straight hair, youll still need to style it, but it will behave after a relaxer, and it wont take nearly as long to iron it in the first place. Also, what the guy above me said, about being the ingredient in a depilatory cream? its true, but the ones he reccomended are the same thing, when you mix the 2 chemicals *ammonium thioglycolate -professional relaxer- and sodium hydroxide -walgreens relaxer-*, you get a depilitory cream. they're using scare tactics to try and disuade you from getting a relaxer. I dont ever reccomend doing it yourself, but i know what i can and cant convince people to do. becareful, there is no fixing a mistake from a relaxer. your best bet would be leaving it in the hands of a professional.

don't do it. chemical relaxers are very very strong. The ones from walgreen are junk. They are one chemical difference from a diplatory cream(nair) Ive actaully seen peoples hair fall off from them becasue they has certain types of color or bleach on there hair as well...my suggestion is to goto the salon. Ones that produce beautiful results on long hair are Wella straight, or Rusk "Anti curl" DONT by an african american one, no matter how gentle it says it is...its not worth being bald I'm not trying to scare you out of anything..i benifit nothing with this, I just dont want you to be bald or severly damage your hair. Relaxers are NOT deplatories, the are ONE chemical difference from being a deplatory. thats all! be careful!
